The postmarketOS and Alpine Linux Conference

Applying for Sovereign Tech Fund for Alpine Linux
2026-09-26 , 5053.2 (Kleiner B-IT Raum)

Alpine Linux is underfunded critical infrastructure, and the Sovereign Tech Fund is designed to give funding to exactly this kind of project. Let's discuss with Alpine Developers and maintainers how to prepare an application

After lots of time thinking about it, I received permission from the Alpine Council to work on an application. The application should answer:

  • Why the project is critical?
  • Provide an overview of projects and technologies that depend on us
  • Who uses/benefits from Alpine, and how would funding help those users
  • How is the work structured
  • Maintenance challenges
  • Which alternatives exist to Alpine Linux
  • What could we do if we had money? And how much time and money would it cost to implement
  • Who can do the work

Alpine Developers and community maintainers are the main target of this workshop

I am a member of the postmarketOS project, which has been years working on postmarketOS governance challenges. As part of that work, I have communicated extensively with members of the Alpine community, and see the success of Alpine part of our own success.
